Celebrating National Healthy Skin Month: What Our Latest Research Reveals About Skin Health in 2025

What is National Healthy Skin Month?

Every November, dermatologists and aesthetic experts come together for National Healthy Skin Month. (https://www.aad.org/public/public-health/awareness-campaigns/national-healthy-skin-month) This campaign was introduced in 1997 by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of skin health and educate the public on healthy skin practises.

The skin is the body’s largest organ and its first line of defence. Yet, many people overlook its care until visible changes appear. National Healthy Skin Month encourages individuals to check in on their skin – from hydration and sun protection to regular dermatologist visits – and reminds professionals of the ongoing role they play in promoting long-term skin health.

How do people feel about their skin today?

Our Skinsights 2025 report, launched earlier this year at the Cynosure Lutronic EMEA Laser & Science Symposium, revealed a major shift in how people perceive and prioritise skin health.

Based on feedback from 4,000 participants across Europe, the data paints a clear picture: patients are moving from reaction to proaction, focusing not just on correcting visible concerns, but on preserving, protecting and enhancing skin health at every stage of life.

Key findings include:

  • 44% of respondents are focusing more on their skin than a year ago showing that ‘skin health’ is becoming more front of mind.

Whilst this is good to see, it gets more useful when you dive into the demographic details.
Men were nearly as engaged as the women we surveyed, with nearly 40% increasing their skin health focus over the last 12 months. In combination with the fact that more men than women said that they’d likely to get a treatment in the next 12 months 27% vs 24%), we continue to see aesthetic wants for men on the rise.

The youngest age group (18-24yr olds) were the most engaged with 56% of those surveyed making their skin health more of a priority versus last year. This group also displayed the best level of awareness when it came to aesthetic technology -particularly when it came to Radiofrequency microneedling and C02 laser.
Conversely, the oldest age group (55-65yr olds) were the least skin health focussed and demonstrated the lowest awareness of aesthetic technologies so targeted marketing could help with raising awareness with this age group. What was interesting was that both the oldest and the youngest age groups had connected the dots between aesthetic treatments and skin health. 1 in 3 stated that ‘improving their skin quality’ was one of their main motivations for considering aesthetic treatments.

This reinforces a growing truth: skin health isn’t a single standard. It’s a deeply individual journey shaped by age, environment and cultural perspective.

Beyond appearance: the science of healthy skin

While skincare routines remain important, Skinsights 2025 also showed that awareness of clinical treatments for improving skin health is on the rise. Patients increasingly view in-clinic procedures not as cosmetic extras, but as integral parts of maintaining skin vitality.

This is where energy-based devices (EBDs) play an important role.

EBDs such as Derma V, PicoSure Pro and LaseMD Ultra enhance the skin’s natural repair mechanisms by stimulating collagen remodelling, cell renewal and vascular balance. Instead of masking surface imperfections, these systems work at a biological level to restore balance, resilience and clarity.

  • Vascular lasers like Derma V reduce redness and inflammation, improving circulation and tone
  • Fractional devices such as LaseMD Ultra encourage gentle resurfacing and product absorption to boost hydration and texture
  • Picosecond technologies like PicoSure Pro address pigmentation and uneven tone while stimulating collagen for stronger, healthier skin

These treatments complement the skin’s intrinsic healing processes, helping to prevent long-term deterioration and preserve structural integrity, key goals of modern dermatology.

A shift toward proactive dermatology

What’s clear from Skinsights 2025 is that the skin health conversation has evolved. The focus is no longer on single treatments for specific flaws, but on comprehensive, evidence-based care that supports the skin through every stage of life.

Clinicians across Europe are already reflecting this change. From Dr Cathy Dierckxsens in Brussels to Dr Pablo Boixeda in Madrid, leading dermatologists are using Cynosure Lutronic technologies to bridge the gap between medical dermatology and aesthetic wellness.

Energy-based devices now enable practitioners to treat chronic redness, pigment disorders, and even precancerous lesions with precision, reliability and minimal downtime – all while enhancing long-term skin health.

Healthy skin, healthy confidence

This National Healthy Skin Month, we celebrate not just clear complexions, but the science and technology helping people feel confident in their skin, at every age, in every country.

From early prevention to advanced rejuvenation, Cynosure Lutronic remains committed to advancing skin health through innovation.

Our goal is simple: empower clinicians with technology that delivers results patients can trust, for skin that doesn’t just look healthy but is healthy.
